September 2025
Our big news this month is that, at long last, we have a cover for the Mysterion 3 anthology.
Anne Horn, who does our bimonthly eBook covers, did the layout for us, with artwork by Andrea Alemanno. This was the featured image on this site in August through October of 2021, and we always thought it would make a great book cover as well.
We still need to order a proof copy before publication, so hopefully we'll find time to do that in the next week or so. Once it's published, it will be available from Amazon, and the eBook should also be available from Kobo.
...or you can subscribe to our Patreon at the $25+/month level before it comes out, and have us ship you a complimentary copy! (You can also subscribe at lower tiers, for as little as $1/month, for lesser rewards.)
COMING SOON
Both our September and October stories are darker in tone. For September, Grace F. Hopkins tells the story of a dying rural community plagued by ravenous monsters after the death of "The Last Sin-Eater of Harfolk County", with no one to take away the people's sins and keep "waiting shadows at bay". In her bio, Grace mentions being a fan of Flannery O'Connor, so if you also appreciate O'Connor's work and Southern gothic horror in general, you might be especially interested in this one.
Then, in October, we'll have "Lies of Omission" by C. Dan Castro, in which Caleb uses black magic to call forth a "truth teller" who can tell him where his mother is, not realizing that knowledge gained through magic always comes at a terrible price. It wasn't unintentional that we scheduled this one for the week of Halloween; though, we'll be honest, this year's Christmas story is probably the darkest thing we'll be publishing all year. But more on that later...
Both stories are scheduled for the 4th Monday of their respective publication months. But the first story is also available now on Patreon for $3+/month subscribers, and both stories are available in eBook format for $10+/month subscribers!
We're working our way through the July story submissions, and expect to have chosen the stories we'll be publishing before the end of November. Our current plan is to accept six stories, but if we can reach (and stay at) $275/month on our Patreon, we'll be able to accept seven.
Please consider signing up for our Patreon if you aren't already a subscriber! We don't receive any grants or other funding from outside organizations; our authors and artists are paid out of our Patreon income and royalties from occasional book sales, with the shortfall coming out of our own savings. So, if you appreciate the selection of stories we publish, you can help us toward long-term sustainability with a monthly subscription.
Thanks for reading, and don't forget to stop by again on September 22nd for our next story, especially if you're a horror fan!
